Aussie Arcade Recommends the following services. I've got some old PC bits I was looking at throwing together to swap in a MAME setup in my Astro to spice things up between PCBs - it's an old Gigabyte mobo, P4 3.2ghz S478 CPU, 1gb RAM, ATi 9600XT and a HDD of some sort (got a 40gb, 200gb and 320gb HDD spare, was planning on using the 40gb).To keep things lean I was thinking of installing TinyXP or MicroXP and run MAME (I have a 0.083 set and 0.128 set, can anyone recommend one over the other? Only interested in 15k games) with a lean frontend (I normally use GameEx, but not sure if that's the best option these days, especially on a custom install like the above with a 3.2ghz P4).I've noticed that a Rev 10 of both of the above are out - can anyone recommend one over the other? I don't plan on installing any of the pre-packed drivers, was going to grab the installers off Gigabyte's website for the mobo and use the Omega drivers for the video card. The setup's intended to be very lean - no internet access once it's in the cab (though being able to remote into the PC for maintenance via my network might be handy), soft15k on the video card, USB support for a jpac (unless they use PS/2?), default AC'97 Realtek audio drivers, some kind of front end (recommendations?

I'm familiar with GameEx, been using it for years on another XP box), MAME, within my system specs. I want something that will boot fast and run with a small memory footprint, but still functions! So, should I go for TinyXP or MicroXP? Is Rev 10 okay, or should I go for Rev 9?

It's an experience release or whatever it is, I think I've spelt it wrong though! And yes, I know I could use nLite and do a custom build, but I'm lazy and don't know all the tricks with doing custom builds, only the basic stuff like pre-filling rego fields, slipstreaming service packs/updates, haven't attacked the services tab too hardSo, any advice? I've got some old PC bits I was looking at throwing together to swap in a MAME setup in my Astro to spice things up between PCBs - it's an old Gigabyte mobo, P4 3.2ghz S478 CPU, 1gb RAM,Your 'old' MAME system is faster than all the machines in my house (2 workstations, a laptop, two MAME cabinets). And out of interest, how small exactly does TinyXP get? I've got MAME cabs with OS+MAME clocking in at just under 80MB (MegaBytes - not a typo).

That and every single vertical game in MAME 0.96 fit on a 2GB hard disk with some space to spare. Your 'old' MAME system is faster than all the machines in my house (2 workstations, a laptop, two MAME cabinets). It's funny - when looking at building my new and discussing it with people on Whirlpool, it's amazing the amount of people using this level of hardware (or less) at home. I thought I was the last of them, but looks like once again I'm mistaken! Glad to hear you're running MAME cabs on less than this, gives me some hope for getting a good install running on this hardware. Thanks for everyone's feedback on which custom install to go with, I reckon I'll go with TinyXP unless MicroXP will give me network (wired) so I can remote in to administer the box when I need to. I'll say I'll install it without the drivers pack, IE, OE and WMP since I won't be running emu movies with my front end, images will be more than fine. Thanks for the recommendation of Mala, I'll look into it.

Micro xp

What's everyone else using on their lite MAME setups?Oh, and last Q - 0.083 or 0.128, which should I go for? Like I said, all I want are 15k games.

Cheers Baker. Have seen rev10 and it's contents, but never used it. Logitech f 0408a manual.
